That Time I Was Interviewed by Huell Howser

Way back in the summer of 2005, I was vacationing with my sons at Camp Mather in the Hetch Hetchy valley up in the Sierra Nevada. While there, we decided to take a hike around the reservoir behind the O’Shaughnessy Dam (the one from which the city of San Francisco gets its water.) After we crossed the dam we encountered the TV personality Huell Howser who interviewed me on my thoughts about taking down the dam and letting the Hetch Hetchy valley revert to its original state. I recognized Huell from his PBS program “California’s Gold” and I thought that perhaps this interview was for that show. However, I never was able to view the program and more or less forgot about the encounter for many years. Recently, I saw a video of Huell on YouTube and it triggered a memory of my interview with him. A quick internet search took me to the video archives of Chapman University to whom Huell had donated his video legacy before his death in 2013. It turns out that my interview was aired but for a different program called “California’s Golden Parks.” I was finally able to see my interview from nineteen years ago! You can watch the program below. (My interview occurs at the 49:45 mark.)
